Fun Station at Xscape Yorkshire
We’re just back from spending a couple of fantastic hours at the Fun Station at Xscape Yorkshire.
Kids are always on the hunt for something different to do, and it’s a challenge to keep coming up with fresh ideas. If you’re on the look out for a game-filled activity with plenty of prizes on offer, Fun Station is just what you’re looking for.
Swiping Good Fun
Forget the never ending clamour for more coins to operate the games, because Fun Station has come up with a pre-paid card that you just swipe through the game machine. You choose how much you want to put on the card – we went with £15 each for our kids – then let them loose in the arcade to cherry pick their favourites. You don’t have to go with that amount if you don’t want to, but you do get extra free tokens on a £15 spend so we figured it was worth it.
When you think how fast kids can burn through money, you’ll realise the value when you hear that after an hour of solid game-play they were still occupied!
How it Works
First, you collect your Fun Card and decide how much to spend. This is great because you can get it into the kids’ heads at the start that they don’t have a bottomless purse to draw on.
Next is pure playtime. Armed with their Fun Card, our kids charged round to scope out the games on offer (and there are plenty to choose from). A quick swipe and it’s time for action.
Then comes the icing on the cake – collecting prizes. Winning is easy, so there is plenty of reward. The machines spit out tickets which kids collect up. They can either go straight to the Prize Station and choose what they want, or save up their tickets for bigger prizes later.
This is brilliant strategy, because the kids get instant satisfaction from the game, but learn about the value of saving too and, as all parents know, it can be a challenge to get kids to wait or save up for anything. Ours chose to save theirs up since there are some really fantastic prizes if you can collect enough tickets. You can save tickets from previous visits too, so you don’t have to exchange them there and then each time you go.
Arcade and Action Games
There’s something for everyone and all ages, no matter what kind of game you like.
Pure video-based games and fairground games packed with cuddly toys are popular, but so are the more physical sort such as air hockey, shooting games (with actual game guns), driving simulation consoles or sports games like basket ball.
It’s lively and loads of fun, and the reams of tickets being won are like carnival streamers. Thankfully you don’t have to count them up yourself as there’s a special ticket-eater machine that does the adding up for you.
The prizes are good, too. It’s not all cuddly toys (although these are really popular) as you can also win high-ticket items like iPads, Xboxes, and electrical gadgets.
We loved it, and with tickets already saved up the kids are itching to get back and win some more. Somehow, we think Fun Station is going to be a regular haunt when we need a quick laughter fix.
