Picnic in Pontefract Castle
Armed with a picnic we set off with our three children to Pontefract Castle. Once we arrived we found a nice spot to lay our blanket and relax for the day.
The day was great with shows and stalls to keep the kids entertained throughout.
The first show was a Viking re-enactment. This show was made up of volunteer members, they provided a spectacular combat display. It was educational & entertaining. They then got the children to join in and each child was allowed to attack the Vikings.
We sat and enjoyed the sunshine and our picnic whilst watching various other shows from dancing dogs, dance display and live music.
As well as the shows there was a free treasure trail around the castle which the kids enjoyed completing and at the end got free sweets and balloons.
We also got tickets to take the children on the free Magazine Tour. This is where visitors can visit the underground magazine, cut out of solid rock and see where Civil War prisoners carved their names into the cell walls.
Other activities included throwing wet sponges at a friend/family member in the stocks.
A great day was had by all and we will definitely be returning next year.
