Christmas Light Switch on in Castleford 2017
Christmas is a very special time of year, and the Christmas Light Switch-On in your home town represents the start of the festivities! With local people coming together to celebrate and join in the fun!
This year’s light switch-on at Castleford was a real family treat. It began at 4pm. On the main parade there was Christmas music, lots of rides, hook-a-duck, donkeys, food stalls, and of course Santa! The kids were certainly spoilt for choice and were loaded with gifts and toys in no time at all, it’s a good job we had many hands between us to carry it all!
Amongst the crowd were the Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig, who were happy to have photos taken with the kids!
Thousands of people turned out and the atmosphere was fantastic. The stage area was at the far end of the precinct just before the Christmas Market Stalls. The weather was very mild considering the time of year, the snow is obviously holding off for Christmas Day!
Behind the stage area there were plenty of stalls which included Christmas gifts, sweets, candles, bags, jewellery, pies, as well as hot food. The stall owners said they had been very busy and enjoyed their evening too.
The light switch-on was at 5:45pm, on the stage were Castleford singer and X Factor star, Jack Walton, alongside Deputy Council Leader and Castleford Tiger’s with JT their mascot. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, as the count hit 1 fake snow was blasted into the crowd which made the town feel very atmospheric with the lights and tree now illuminated.
As the crowds eased it gave our children the opportunity to have a go on a few more rides before got home.
The Castleford Light Switch-On was a great event, well done to the organisers and all involved.
